And also,
Average card at best.
6g for 5f? Lame
No proactive battle action? Double lame
1ph Samurai? What use is that? Triple Lame!!!!!
Alright as you can guess this is defiantely sarcasm because we all need a little whine with our Cheese.
Good solid card this is. I will definately be using this monster in conjunction with the HV cards. Looks like shourido is back baby! |

5F/4C/1PH Samurai for 6G.
Not bad.
The "grab a dark virtue" ability is a neat bonus (though dark virtues ain't that hot anymore... Control and Determination still have their uses, as have Insight, Will and Knowledge, but they aren't the powerhouses they were in the past, and most often don't manage to get on decklists)
Finally the art is very cool. Rrrawwww....
All in all not bad, but " good average" - and I'd hope for more powerful stuff if the Spider Clan is supposed to catch up to the rest of the playing field powerwise. So I lace my review with another small dose of disappointment. |

I am sure playtest will back this up Terran once HV and TEJ hits, but she is very very good in my opinion. And if Justin says she is very good with an HV peep, and compliments others then she is only that much better.
I am waiting for soul jar to be nerfed soon as well. |

Sleeper!
Yes, I'm silly. But 6 gold for 5/4 with a nice entering play? Yes please. |

Now we just need her performing a spiked piledriver on some poor foo' on the XP1 version...
I think she's great, myself. 5/4 for 8g is better than I would have expected. The ability is gravy. Yes, I would love to see more peeps with good battle actions, but she's an excuse to run more Shourido goodness and if her entering-play nets you a card she's at least helping out a tiny bit with our Fate-dependence. And I would expect that a good Battle would have necessitated either lower stats or else a higher cost.
My cards shipped today, and I got hit by the bug that switched Priority shipping to Express. She's going in my deck by Saturday (fingers crossed, XMAS postal crunch and all), replacing Buncho (who isn't half bad, himself, but she matches his gold cost, so he's out for now). Now I just need two more Temples of Unity... |

who is she piggybacking on?
-not too much awed by the card ( even the art ).. but maybe when this hits our shores perhaps Setsuna will once again set aside his Chi Death deck and pick up his dueling Spider once more..
-what Dark Virtues ( aside from Determination ) do you guys stack on your Spider Dueling deck anyway, to take full advantage of her ability.. |

I don't care about her trait. It's fun for certain builds but her 5 force, 4 chi and a 3 entering play honor loss means she kicks Iemitsu out of my duelling build. |

Determination, as you mentioned, is a pretty good card. Saicho's trait can help counter the card-disadvantage inherent to playing two cards for one effect. Also 4 focus.
Control sees some play, as well. Play it on a cheap Samurai and you can shut down a much bigger (and costlier) enemy peep.
Insight can be good, unless you just run a ton of attachments, or something. 3 focus, plus a bit of search. I'm planning on running it once I can get a set.
Perfection has Daigotsu Rekai and a 3 focus value. It's a cheap ("-ish", since 1g is still a holding, no matter what... Spider may laugh at Death a bit, but even we bow before the tax-man!) +2/+1, making Saicho a 7/5 for 2 holdings now and one next turn; slap a weapon on her and she breaks pretty much any province. However, it's a token, not an actual attachment; no real defense (well, against Ranged 5 a bit...) and it can't come back with Cleansing Spirit or Dark Inheritance. Still, could be fun...
Strength and Will are probably best in non-dueling Military, and I loves me my duels. Will can possibly swing a battle, as well as bringing back one of your Samurai, while Strength is much less likely to be decisive but can save an important (well, not that important - not Daigotsu or Muketsu or Katsu or Yaijinden... Although the later two don't as much need saving and Kanpeki takes care of Big Daddy D.) personality from battle resolution.
Knowledge is an interesting one. The 2 focus is not so good for dueling, but it's a good defensive action that also draws cards. Compare to Courtesy, which gives out Honor (to both sides). I'd say it's not bad (except perhaps against Mantis), but it will be best against military decks packing high PH.
So, personally (Military w/ duels) I'd expect to run 2 or 3 Determination, 3 Insight, and 2 Perfection. Assuming that I really wanted to take advantage of Saicho's trait; I may just stick with the two Determinations I currently run and treat the trait as "gravy". |

In a dueling deck (or any deck for that matter), looking at your next 5 cards is awesome, regardless of whether you are running Dark Virtues or not. If your focus pool would include the only 2's in your deck...maybe waiting to duel is the better option. I think Determination is worth running, but sadly I don't have any to try it out. Either way, she is a great personality in any spider deck, and is simply amazing for dueling/Ruined City action.
I would like the art a lot more if she wasn't looking at the camera...what are they teaching kids in school these days? |

I'm running two Determination and two Insight atm. I'll probably switch up my deck quite a bit after HV, though. |

Okay I may probably misisng it somewhere, but earlier somebody said something aobut her and Soul Jar. Yet, I do not see any combo ability. what am I not seeing? Or is she just a really good person to pull back into play with the jar.

Her entering play ability triggers each time she is brought into play, regardless of where from.
Being able to look at the top five cards of your deck every turn (provided she dies a lot) is pleasant.
I recognize the Anthony Grabski artwork even without peeking at the name. And I'm grateful he didn't red it out like he did with Benika and Katsuko |

Well, this improves the card a bit (though still, knowing you will only get crap as the next 5 fate cards won't help you much; So either you have to run "shuffle your deck" effects or dark virtues)
That said, I give the rules team a month or so to errata Soul Jar (maybe making it that it won't trigger enter-play abilities and moving it will kill the reanimated peeps) so we get once more throughly screwed over. :/ |

Well if I was a betting man i would summise that soul Jar MAY see errata but not because we are abusing it.
Effectively soul jar is just way too good. Think about it. It is free animation every turn that gives a bonus to force, it triggers entering play effects, and is effectively reusable on the same peep over and over again since the Zombie is destoyed not removed from game.
It also allows you to reanimate unique personalities, and on top of this whole swap the Jar malarky it just adds up to very very good.
Cards like Emma O amulet, ring of the Phoenix are unique and dont reanimate Uniques. Also they are one shot. No comparison to effects in terms of balance.
Admittedly Soul Jar can only really be used by 4 clans, but still it does make you wonder what will happen |
