my likes ranged attacks...and paragons.

but the fact that we will now have three non-unique artisans is the most interesting element of this set. What the heck are we going to do with them? Gain honor?

This guy is a beast in every single Paragon deck.

And the art... the art... it's beautiful. Most beautiful art in L5R. Ever.

(One last thing, I want to add "... but he's not Unique." to his flavor text Razz

He's ... not good. Looking at my focus values he'll either be a ranged 4 or a ranged 2 most of the time and that just doesn't cut it.

If we had more people with printed ranged attacks it might be feasible to run Arrows do not Falter, but Shimekiri doesn't have a slot yet, Shinjutsu is still better.

4 chi would have easily made him playable.

Man, I've been sitting on this art and card since October, waiting for it to be previewed. Twelve long years of patience and effort and now my last old school L5R goal is fulfilled.

So many thanks to Jon Hall for saying "Let's get this done!" at GC09. To Shawn Carman for actually using my character's name. And to Bryan Reese for letting me work a little on the card (mainly the Fallen Crane and Dark Art bits. My other Dark option is actually used on Setsuko XP. Other rule things like Duelist apparently didn't work out). And to Nancy Sauer for the wicked cool flavor text.

I'll point out the two paintings in the background. They are of Kyojin, Shadowlands Enforcer on the left and Daigotsu/The False Hoturi on the right. Those two characters are the most influential in my L5R "career". (Togashi Yokuni being the only one to match them, mainly due to his Matt Wilson art.) Yes I am a complete geek and have 40 of each card to back my decks with. (And 38 Hoturi the Heartless...send me yours!!! lol)

Or 5F. He'll do quite a few RA5s considering that there are numerous DVs with a 4F now. Plus he's 10F with Murderous Intent.

I tried, man, I tried. What with him being a fallen Kenshinzen and all. (Plus we tried to figure out how to make his Battle Action an Iaijutsu one like Oishi but it needed to an RA for rules sake. Shimekiri is just fast and can cut you down with one brutal iai strike.)
We'll just have to wait until the XP version, I guess=) (Which I aim to win at the Obsidian Championship this year. Or convince another to choose him.)

Reduce the cost of the Hand of the Obsidian Dragon to zero?

Card-wise, this is pretty decent. Coolness-wise...this rocks the house. Congratulations, Troy!

You are truly an awesome guy, Troy. Im really glad you came on here and talked to us and answered our questions. I also understand why he isnt a duelist... Also, Minoko is in fact, in your house.

Trust me, there are lots of fun things.

Discovering Lost Lore to cycle spells that require destructon (ie 3 more uses of Touch of Death) and gain an honor

Forging the Gift for +2F/+1C weapons and gain 1 honor

Strengthening Protection will become much cheaper, so +6 PS if you run three.

And possibly the best use, especially for Paragons if you run Phantom Blade Kata is Unsavory Practices to destroy any cards without attachments that have 6 or less GC.

How often will be actually use these? Don't know. I personally get miles of use out of DLL in my Breeder deck that runs Touch of Death, Summon Maseru no Oni, and a few other spells that require discarding the spell.
